Biography

Tonglin Lu earned her PhD in Comparative Literature from Princeton University and her post-doctorates from Harvard and Berkeley. She teaches intercultural studies, globalization theory, feminism and Chinese culture. Before coming to the Université de Montréal, she taught literature and cinema at the University of Iowa. She is particularly interested in cultural production in a decentralized world, the multimedia influence and the impact of globalized distribution of cultural products on the reconfiguration of local cultures. In her research she focuses on the sociohistorical impact on cultural production and the impact of culture on history and society, taking an essentially interdisciplinary approach. She is completing a publication entitled In the Eye of the Red Storm, and beginning a research project on the relations between culture and the socio-political environment of the Sino-Japanese war.
